Halloween is a religious holiday in memory of the fallen and dead. We celebrate Halloween on October 31 st of the month always. It is also known as 'All Hallows Eve' or All Saints Day in the Catholic Church. In the past, it was celebrated by having a feast at the end of the yearly harvest.

It is now celebrated by going trick or treating (where kids go out and knock on doors and get candy). We also celebrate it by watching scary movies, going to parties, and making jack o lanterns.

Halloween's customs were brought to the U.S.A from the Ireland . Halloween is also practiced in many other countries. Through the ages Halloween has been known for mythical creatures and tales. It is said that on Halloween the dead can come back to life and rise. Also some of the mythical creatures include Zombies, Witches, and Skeletons. We also wear silly and scary costumes while trick or treating. On Halloween some people like to make special treats like pies, cupcakes, and candy. Other people enjoy pranking people. Also on Halloween night people decorate their houses with scary and spooky things like huge fake spiders, and grave stones. Others set up their own haunted house for children to see. That's how we celebrate Halloween in the U.S

Halloween Interview

Not enough Monsters, Witches, and Jack-o-Lanterns in your life? Well, my relatives have lots of things that really happened to them on the scariest holiday of the year. The first person is my dad. He would always start by putting on his costume. He would be something different every time. For example, he could be a monster. Next, he would head out trick or treating.

Dad used to believe that a witch lived in a house on his street so a lot of the kids on the street (including him) avoided that house on Halloween.

Dad's family used to turn their garage into a haunted house, too. Moving on to Grandma, when my grandma was very little, she used to throw parties. She would take a coat hanger and tie an apple on a string to it. Then she'd stick up her head and try to get the apple down with nothing but her mouth. She would also march around her school with her class in their costumes.

When Grandma was a teen, the other teens in the neighborhood (not including she) would throw eggs, toilet paper, and other things at people's houses.

Now, people still go trick-or-treating. They sometimes walk around their school, and they throw Halloween parties at both school and/or home.

A lot of kids sometimes think there's a witch or monster living on their street too!

What is Halloween?

Halloween is a holiday just for fun. You dress up as a scary monster, someone from a scary movie, or even something that isn't scary. Once it's dark outside you go trick-or-treating. Trick-or-treating is knocking on people's doors and asking for candy by saying, “Trick or treat!” If they don't give you candy, then you pull a trick on them. So you better be prepared and give candy on Halloween (even though most people don't pull a trick on you if you don't give candy).

So next time you see something scary, think of Halloween!
