New Year in the USA

Have you ever wanted to learn how new years started? Well these are some interesting facts about New Years . New Years occurs on January 1 st as the first day of the year. Julius Caesar, who was a leader of Rome in 46 B.C., is responsible for changing the early Roman calendar and making the January 1 st the first day of the year. This calendar most resembles the modern Gregorian calendar that most people in the world use today. December 31 st , or what is commonly known as New Year's Eve, is when most people welcome the new year with friends and family.

New Years is a one of the most celebrated holidays throughout the world today. People do not have school or work on this day so they can honor the day. It is a time that we wish happy thoughts and look forward to good times ahead. It is not uncommon for people to make New Year's resolutions. This is when people think of a way that they can be better for the new year. For example, they may decide to lose weight, exercise more, eat better, work harder or just be a nicer person.

One of the most famous places to celebrate New Years is in New York City Times Square where you can watch the ball drop on New Years Eve. It was originally celebrated with fireworks. However, fireworks became banned in New York during the early 1900's, and so they developed a giant ball that dropped from a long pole in which people could count down the seconds to the start of the new year. So the next time you celebrate New Years, whether it's with friends, families, or fireworks, remember to have a happy New Years!

My parents said that a while ago, they celebrated New Years differently than they do now. They went out with friends, ate dinner, drank champagne and would party with their friends and family until all hours of the morning. Today they celebrate New Years with friends and dinner.
