SCHOOL CELEBRATIONS IN RUSSIA

Almost all national holidays are celebrated in Russian schools but there are several specific ones.

Day of Knowledge

It is the first day of school, first September. Children go to school with flowers, meet their teacher and classmates. The holiday is especially important for the first graders.



The holiday originated in Soviet times. Children wore uniform for special occasions (girls in white aprons).

School leaving party

School leaving parties are celebrated at the end of primary school (grade 4), secondary school (grade 9) and high school (grade 11). Children perform concerts, congratulate teachers.


From Soviet times on, students of the grade 11 have a last bell party. They listen to the last bell in their life. Chilldren tell thanks to their teachers and give flowers.
