Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December to honor the birth of Jesus Christ. The word Christmas literally translates to Christ's Mass. Christmas time is a very fun time of year. It is a time of year that makes you dream for snow and a “White Christmas”. Holiday cheer is shared through caroling in which people go from house to house to sing songs. Popular Christmas songs include “White Christmas”, “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”, “Jingle Bells”, “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer”, “Silent Night”, “Frosty the Snowman”, and “The Christmas Song”. Christmas is also celebrated with Christmas trees. A fun tradition is when you decorate your tree with lights, garland, ornaments, and a star for the top. Other traditional decorations include bells , candles , Christmas cards, candy canes, stockings, wreaths, mistletoe, snowmen, and angels. A big part of the Christmas tradition involves giving gifts to loved ones.

Santa Claus, who is depicted as a jolly old man wearing a red and white suit, is a central figure of the Christmas holiday. The character of Santa Claus is inspired by Saint Nicholas who went around giving gifts to poor children. The legend of Santa centers around the North Pole and his magical workshop of elves. It is believed that every year he makes presents for those children who were nice. Those who were naughty received nothing but a lump of coal. Christmas Eve is usually celebrated with parties, family, friends, and lots of food. It is on this night that children will usually leave out cookies and milk for Santa and carrots for his reindeer. Santa is known to have a sled to help in carry his presents from house to house. This sled is pulled by the reindeer of Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen. Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and of course, the most famous reindeer of all, Rudolph.

Christmas information

Christmas is celebrated because of the birth Jesus.

How Christmas is celebrated now is where our family members give us presents and we open them on Christmas morning.

How did Christmas change over the years is they just celebrated Jesus's birthday and seeing family not about Santa Claus and presents.

The word Christmas comes from Christ's Mass or Mass of Christ.

Technically Jesus was born in September not December.

Even for those that celebrated Christmas originally, Santa didn't have a connection to Christmas or giving gifts.

Long ago Christmas trees were considered special and the people believed that they would ward off witches, ghosts, and evil spirits.

Now people are being too commercial which means receiving gifts instead of giving gifts to those less fortunate.

People around Christmas time are stressed about buying presents instead of spending time with family, going to church and Christmas caroling.
